The QUESTS-MIDA survey closed 31 December 2009. We are analyzing the results, which will later be posted.

Somali Professional Meeting

Details: The Meeting will serve to provide in depth information on QUESTS-MIDA. The opportunity to participatein capacity building in Somaliainstitutions.
Feedback will be received from the participants. Information materials will be distributed including the QUESTS-MIDA brochures and factsheet. The application process on the website will be explained explicitly during this information session.

Seminar: The diaspora's role in development cooperation

Details
: The seminar has been organized by the Gothenburg Initiative and ForumSyd on the occasion of the International Migrants Day. This event will include the migrants' role and their importance for poverty reduction and global development cooperation.

While development issues in general will be highlighted, discussions will focus on how diaspora organizations and individuals can move forward in the fight for global justice and poverty reduction. There will be a presentation on QUESTS-MIDA in the seminar.



Somali Festival in London
Date:  Fri 13 Nov 2009 - 5 PM to 10 PM

Details
: Attendees from community organizations, London Boroughs' Local Authorities, public figures and the media. Activities include Somali artists, music, song, dance and plays; short speeches delivered by festival coordinating committee, sponsors and public figures; traditional Somali music served. QUESTS-MIDA will have an information booth. 


Puntland Diaspora 2nd Annual Conference

Date: 10 – 12 Oct 2009
Venue: Ramada Plaza, 1330 Industrial Blvd, Minneapolis, MN
Details: Participants discussed the following key items among other things: the current State of Somali politics and the virtues of federalism; environmental problems; Women and youth as agents of change in the development of Puntland; Socio-economic development; Healthcare and education in Puntland. QUESTS-MIDA Diaspora Liaison Assistant presented the project to the audience.

VIII SIRC Horn of Africa conference
Date: 7 – 9 Aug 2009
Venue: Lund, Sweden
Details: The purpose of the conference was to “enhance the capacity of stakeholders in the Horn of Africa with new ideas and tools to enable them to act progressively and effectively in favor of peace building, democracy and good governance, rule of law and development and effect long-term institutional change in the Horn of Africa.”  QUESTS-MIDA Diaspora Liaison Assistant introduced the QUESTS-MIDA project to the audience and received feedback on the project.
