DetailsThe event has been organized in collaboration with Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO). The meeting will serve to provide in-depth information about QUESTS-MIDA, as well as to discuss and answer questions regarding the project.  Feedback will be received from the participants. Information materials will also be distributed including the QUESTS-MIDA Brochure & Fact Sheet. PRIO will be able to discuss projects focused on the role of the Somali diaspora in development and peace building, including the DIASPEACE project and UNDP Somalia projects. »Entebbe II Somali Diaspora Conference
Date:  7 – 11 Dec 2009
Venue: Mombasa Continental Resort, Mombasa, Kenya
DetailsThe purpose of the conference is to strengthen the cohesion and action of the Somali civil society.  It will bring together a wide range of leading civil society actors, including NGOs, the business sector, Diaspora and media, both from within Somalia and from the Diaspora. The conference will facilitate a space for Somali civil society and Diaspora opinion-makers where they can: (a) bring to the forefront a more unified voice of the civil society in a quest for national reconciliation in Somalia and (b) revitalize the reconciliation and nation-building roles of the Somali civil society and Diaspora. The conference will provide a neutral place for participants to reflect upon the current context, and the role of civil society. It will also facilitate different Somali sectors of the society in attendance to share their relevant information and explore ways to reconnect and network further. There was a presentation on QUESTS-MIDA and thereafter a Question and Answer session followed during the final 2 days of the conference.

Details: Participants discussed the following key items among other things: the current State of Somali politics and the virtues of federalism; environmental problems; Women and youth as agents of change in the development of Puntland; Socio-economic development; Healthcare and education in Puntland. QUESTS-MIDA Diaspora Liaison Assistant presented the project to the audience.
